PADI AWARE Dry Specialty CreditProtecting Our Local North Texas Water Systems
In North Texas, our lakes, reservoirs, and rivers supply drinking water to millions while providing recreational habitats. Here is how Texas divers protect our local waters:
Stop Zebra Mussels: Clean, Drain, Dry
Invasive zebra mussels threaten Texas waterways. Divers must thoroughly rinse gear with hot tap water (140°F) or fresh water, drain all BCD bladders, boots, and wetsuits, and allow gear to completely dry for at least 5 days before diving in another Texas lake like Wheeler Branch Reservoir or Lake Worth.
Eliminate Chemical Runoff & Toxic Defog
Runoff from lawn fertilizers, motor oils, and toxic cleaning solvents contaminates municipal watersheds. We educate divers to use eco-safe biodegradable defog and avoid soaps containing phosphates or microplastics that trigger toxic algae blooms.
Dive Against Debris & Lake Cleanups
Ascuba Diving hosts regular underwater lake cleanups across DFW lakes. Divers remove discarded monofilament fishing lines, lead sinkers, aluminum cans, and plastic debris, logging data directly into the global PADI AWARE Marine Debris Database.
