PADI Public Safety Diver
Foundation Level Multi-Day Intensive

PADI Public Safety Diver (PSD)

The foundation course that prepares public safety personnel and qualified divers to operate as disciplined members of an emergency dive team. Emphasis on safety, victim recovery, scene preservation, and precise underwater search patterns.

Key Operational Skills Taught:

  • Scene size-up, risk assessment, and incident management
  • Primary diver, backup safety diver, and tender roles
  • Tender-to-diver tether line communications & rope signals
  • Arc, jackstay, and parallel search patterns
  • Evidence collection and crime scene chain of custody
  • Victim recovery protocols and debrief procedures
  • Entanglement emergency procedures and rapid self-rescue
Course Prerequisites: PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying credential), minimum 18 years old, and PADI Rescue Diver (or proof of rescue certification). Current CPR/First Aid (EFR/BLS).

Advanced Tactical Elite Certification

PADI Advanced Public Safety Diver (APSD)

Elevates public safety divers to advanced operational readiness in challenging, high-hazard environments. Specializes in zero-visibility blackwater diving, vehicle extraction, lift bag rigging, and contaminated water risk mitigation.

Key Operational Skills Taught:

  • Zero-visibility blackwater tactile search sweeps
  • Commercial lift bag rigging and underwater salvage mechanics
  • Submerged vehicle recovery procedures and rigging points
  • Contaminated water diving risks, PPE selection, and field decon
  • Sonar and technology-assisted target acquisition & confirmation
  • Team leadership, incident command system (ICS) integration
  • Advanced redundant air management and full-face mask ops
Course Prerequisites: PADI Public Safety Diver (or qualifying credential), minimum 18 years old, Drysuit Diver and Full-Face Mask Diver certifications (or proven operational experience), logged team operational dives.
