Do I need to be a strong competitive swimmer to learn to dive?
No, you do not need to be an Olympic athlete, but basic water comfort is required for your safety. PADI Open Water certification requires completing a 200-meter continuous surface swim (or 300 meters with mask, fins, and snorkel) without time limits, plus a 10-minute survival float or tread in deep water.
What is the minimum age to get certified?
Children ages 10 to 14 can earn their PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification. At age 15, the credential automatically upgrades to a standard PADI Open Water Diver certification without additional testing. For younger children (ages 8 and up), we offer the PADI Bubblemaker pool experience.
Are there medical conditions that prevent me from diving?
All student divers must complete the standard Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire before water sessions. If you answer "YES" to any medical condition (such as asthma, heart conditions, or active epilepsy), a physician's written clearance is required prior to pool sessions. What scuba gear is provided in class, and what do I need to buy?
Included in Tuition: Ascuba Diving provides all major life-support equipment during your class: buoyancy compensator (BCD), regulators, depth gauges, air cylinders, and weights.
Personal Gear Needed: For proper fit and hygiene, students are required to own their personal snorkeling package: scuba-quality mask, snorkel, open-heel fins, and neoprene booties. We offer special student fitting discounts in our Azle showroom.
How does PADI eLearning work?
PADI eLearning allows you to complete the classroom knowledge development at your own pace from your computer, tablet, or smartphone. Most students finish the online modules in 8 to 12 hours before meeting our instructors for pool training.
Where are open water checkout dives conducted?
Our open water checkout dives are primarily conducted over a single weekend at Wheeler Branch Reservoir in Glen Rose, TX (or Clear Springs Scuba Park). Wheeler Branch features spring-fed visibility, sunken boats, an airplane trainer, and dedicated dive platforms. We also support PADI referral paperwork if you prefer completing checkout dives in the Caribbean!
What is your class reschedule and refund policy?
We understand life happens. Tuition can be transferred to a future class date with at least 72 hours advance notice. Because PADI eLearning codes are registered directly with PADI in your name, digital materials fees are non-refundable once redeemed. Full details are available in our Terms of Service.
