Cocos Island, Costa Rica – The Ultimate Hammerhead Frontier

Embark on a voyage to the legendary Cocos Island, a remote volcanic outpost famous for massive schools of hammerheads, hunting sharks, and deep-water pelagics.

The Destination: Cocos Island National Park

Rising from the deep Pacific Ocean 340 miles off Costa Rica's west coast, Cocos Island is a lush, uninhabited volcanic island covered in tropical rainforest and waterfalls. Under the surface, its volcanic seamounts intercept major nutrient-rich ocean currents, acting as a beacon for schooling sharks, rays, and massive schools of jacks.

Signature Dive Highlights

  • Bajo Alcyone: Globally ranked as one of the top dive sites on Earth. Hook onto this seamount at 90 feet and watch schools of hundreds of scalloped hammerhead sharks circle overhead.
  • Manuelita Deep & Shallows: A high-energy site where whitetip reef sharks form massive hunting packs at night, and hammerheads visit cleaning stations during the day.
  • Big Animal Encounters: Regular sightings of giant manta rays, whale sharks, marble rays, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks, and pods of wild dolphins.
